Morten Nielsen and Ditte Maria Bjerg

Morten Nielsen and Ditte Maria Bjerg are currently staying at NIRS. They work with theatre and education in Denmark and Sweden - Morten as an independent actor and educator, Ditte as stage director and researcher at Lunds University in Sweden. Morten and Ditte co-own part of Hannibals House in Saqqaq.

In 2015 Ditte created and staged the performance “Nihao Nuuk – "En ekspedition I anledning af Kalaallit Nunaata (Grønlands) fremtid”, in Copenhagen.

The performance was based on research around the social, political and environmental dilemmas of mining, with a focus on Kvanefjeldet. The colonial discourse in Denmark around the Chinese interests was also investigated in the performance. As part of the research Ditte interviewed stakeholders from Kalaallit Nunaata, Australia and China. Miké F Thomsen, an actor from Kalaallit Nunaata was part of the performance together with Morten Nielsen, Sigrid Husjord - a Norwegian performer and a group of young Greenlandic students from Copenhagen participated as guides.
Now 10 years later, Morten and Ditte are in Narsaq with the aim of understanding the current mining situation in the area. And open to meeting other artists and cultural operators for potential future collaboration.

Ditte is starting a new artistic research project Choir of apologies in Denmark. During the winter 25/26 a serie of workshops will be held at Mungo Park Theatre in Denmark with groups of citzens, to investigate new texts on the apologies the Danish state owes Kalaallit Nunaata. Apologies that seem urgent as a first step of a process of truth and reconciliation. Outputs from the research will be shared at https://portal.research.lu.se/en/projects/choir-of-apologies-working-title?fbclid=IwY2xjawMSc2FleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFiNkd4MkVrY2J1ZFFiWFVlAR6OlV2ofxBAxuRPSLjZ00DZ_IBu9-vQZeSy1eY1XNt52DdwErupC0TaawKdcA_aem_WXYSRDqKn5TyJfS32GX_eQ
