The Aasivik Festival's 50th Year is an important event that has influenced recent cultural and political history in Kalaallit Nunaat. In Greenlandic Aasivik means "summer place" or "summer camp". It refers to settlements where Inuit used to meet and live together during summer months. In the 1970s and 1980s, a new Aasivik tradition emerged where Greenlandic youth would meet, camp and live together in stunning locations. Inuit art, music and theatre was performed and issues of importance to Greenland and Greenlandic identity was discussed. The first of these gatherings was held in Narsaq in 1976 and this year marks the 50th Jubilee of the Aasivik Festival, which will take place in stunning Narsap Ilua. Come join us!
